Once your SA Webhosts email account is set up, the next step is usually getting it into the email programme you use every day. Here's how to connect your @yourbusiness.co.za mailbox to desktop Outlook.
What you'll need before you start
- Your full email address (e.g. you@yourbusiness.co.za)
- Your mailbox password (set up in cPanel, or sent to you when the account was created)
- Your incoming and outgoing mail server addresses — usually mail.yourdomain.co.za, but check your welcome email or cPanel if you're unsure
Adding the account in Outlook
- Open Outlook and go to File > Add Account.
- Enter your full email address and click Connect.
- When Outlook asks whether to set the account up automatically, choose Advanced options and tick "Let me set up my account manually."
- Choose IMAP (recommended, since it keeps your mail in sync across devices) or POP3 if you only ever check mail from this one computer.
Server settings
On the next screen, Outlook will ask for your server details. Typical settings are:
- Incoming mail server: mail.yourdomain.co.za, Port 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP3), SSL enabled
- Outgoing mail server: mail.yourdomain.co.za, Port 587, StartTLS enabled
- Username: your full email address
Enter your mailbox password when prompted, and click Connect.
If it doesn't connect on the first try
The most common cause is a typo in the server address or an SSL/port mismatch. Double-check that the incoming and outgoing server names match exactly what's in your cPanel account, and that you've used the ports listed above rather than Outlook's suggested defaults.
